Roppongi & Akasaka4 hotels · a walk-first core or a nearby alternative

For repeated late nights in central Roppongi, start with a hotel in Roppongi itself. Akasaka is a separate base worth comparing when its actual rate and the return journey work together.

Watch the trade-off. Do not turn a room-price saving into an expensive ride every night. A property near Akasaka Station is not automatically near your final Roppongi venue.

Roppongi · Private room

Sotetsu Fresa Inn Tokyo Roppongi

A fit for: A walk-first Roppongi base

A private-room starting point when walking back from central Roppongi matters more than extra space.

The trade-off. Check the booked room size and bed arrangement. A central location is not a promise of quietness.

Published address
3-10-1 Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo
Arrival reference
Roppongi Station · Exit 5
Entrance / station notes

The hotel lists 1 minute from Exit 5 or 2 minutes from Exit 3. Follow its entrance photographs; these are station-arrival times.

Roppongi · Private room

remm Roppongi

A fit for: Comparing central Roppongi private rooms

Another central private-room option when you want your bed in the same nightlife district.

The trade-off. Compare room size and the entrance route, not the brand name alone. A sleep-focused brand is not a guarantee that every room is silent.

Published address
7-14-4 Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo
Arrival reference
Roppongi Station · about 1 min, hotel guidance
Entrance / station notes

Use the current official access map and entrance photographs. The Japanese and English pages list different Hibiya Line exits, so this guide does not choose one for you.

Roppongi · Private room

Candeo Hotels Tokyo Roppongi

A fit for: A central Roppongi alternative with detailed access guidance

A further private-room comparison on the central Roppongi side, with published station-access options.

The trade-off. Do not assume the shortest station route is step-free. Confirm your room, entrance and late-return requirements with the property.

Roppongi Station · Exit 3

Akasaka · Private room

Henn na Hotel Tokyo Akasaka

A fit for: Roppongi nights with an Akasaka alternative

Compare an Akasaka private room when central Roppongi prices do not work for your dates.

The trade-off. Akasaka is a separate base, not another name for Roppongi. Include the actual walk or taxi home before calling it better value.

Arrival reference
Tameike-Sanno or Akasaka Station

The hotel lists 4 minutes from Tameike-Sanno Exits 10/11 and 5 minutes from Akasaka Exit 2. These are not walking times from Roppongi.

Shibuya3 hotels · station, Jinnan and Dogenzaka comparisons

For Shibuya nights, choose the side of the district that fits your last venue. A convenient arrival at Shibuya Station is useful, but it is not the same measurement as the late-night walk from a club.

Watch the trade-off. Compare private rooms with private rooms, or consciously choose a pod. Consider Ebisu only after adding the journey home; it is not a guaranteed cheaper or quieter answer.

Shibuya · Private room

Shibuya Tokyu REI Hotel

A fit for: A central Shibuya private-room base

A private-room comparison close to Shibuya Station, without choosing shared sleeping space.

The trade-off. Check the exact room and the street-level return route from your final venue. Station access is not a nightlife walking-time guarantee.

Jinnan / Shibuya · Pod · shared facilities

The Millennials Shibuya

A fit for: Solo travellers comfortable with pod accommodation

An option for a solo traveller who values a central base and is comfortable sleeping in a pod.

The trade-off. A pod is not a private hotel room. Check age rules, gender/floor options, shared facilities, luggage space and late-entry conditions before paying.

Shibuya / Dogenzaka · Private room

Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu

A fit for: Dogenzaka-side nights and a station-connected base

A private-room comparison on the Dogenzaka / Mark City side when that is where your nights will end.

The trade-off. Station and shopping-centre shortcuts are not a substitute for checking the street-level hotel entrance for late returns.

Arrival reference
Shibuya Station · Shibuya Mark City
Entrance / station notes

The hotel lists about 3 minutes from the JR Central Gate and 1 minute from underground Exit A5. Follow the hotel entrance, not just a shopping-centre pin.

Shinjuku3 hotels · Kabukicho centre or Higashi-Shinjuku edge

For nights around Golden Gai or Kabukicho, our first comparison is the eastern nightlife side. Higashi-Shinjuku is another base to check when you prefer the edge rather than the centre.

Watch the trade-off. JR Shinjuku, Seibu-Shinjuku and Higashi-Shinjuku are different stations. A hotel described as “near Shinjuku” can still leave you with the wrong arrival or return route.

Kabukicho · Private room

Super Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho

A fit for: Kabukicho nights on a price-conscious shortlist

Compare a private room on the Kabukicho side when your night will finish around the same district.

The trade-off. The nightlife setting is part of the choice. Check recent room-specific noise comments and the route you would actually use at night.

Kabukicho · Private room

Hotel Gracery Shinjuku

A fit for: A central Kabukicho walk-first base

A central Kabukicho private-room comparison for nights that end around the same district.

The trade-off. Choose the neighbourhood deliberately. Being in the nightlife area does not guarantee a quiet room or a route you personally enjoy late at night.

Higashi-Shinjuku · Private room

Sotetsu Fresa Inn Higashi Shinjuku

A fit for: A Higashi-Shinjuku alternative

Compare this station-side base when you prefer the edge of the nightlife district to staying in its centre.

The trade-off. A longer return from some Kabukicho bars. The hotel warns that nearby intersections prohibit U-turns; the pickup side can matter.

Published address
7-27-9 Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo
Arrival reference
Higashi-Shinjuku Station · beside Exit B2
Entrance / station notes

The official directions put the hotel beside Exit B2. Higashi-Shinjuku is not JR Shinjuku Station; use the right arrival station.

Ebisu2 hotels · private-room options near Ebisu Station

Start here when your plan is dinner and bars around Ebisu. It can also be a deliberate alternative to sleeping in central Shibuya, provided the return journey is acceptable.

Watch the trade-off. Ebisu is its own station area. “Shibuya-ku” in an address—or “Shibuya” in a hotel name—does not mean Shibuya Station. Room-level noise still needs checking.

Ebisu Minami · Private room

Prince Smart Inn Ebisu

A fit for: An Ebisu base, or a deliberate Shibuya alternative

A private-room comparison on the Ebisu Minami side, away from choosing a bed in central Shibuya.

The trade-off. Ebisu is not a walk-home guarantee after a Shibuya club night. Compare the actual return route and total trip cost.

Published address
3-11-25 Ebisu Minami, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo
Arrival reference
Ebisu Station · Metro Exit 5 / JR West Exit
Entrance / station notes

The hotel lists about 3 minutes from Metro Exit 5 and 5 minutes from the JR West Exit. Follow the official approach map.

Ebisu · Private room

Tokyu Stay Shibuya Ebisu

A fit for: An Ebisu station-side private-room comparison

A second private-room option when dinner and bars around Ebisu are the point of the trip.

The trade-off. The word Shibuya in the name does not put it at Shibuya Station. Check the address and your end-of-night destination.

Published address
1-9-5 Ebisu Nishi, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo
Arrival reference
Ebisu Station · Metro / JR
Entrance / station notes

The official page lists about 1 minute from Tokyo Metro Ebisu and 2 minutes from JR Ebisu. Use the full hotel name: this is the Ebisu property, not another Tokyu Stay in Shibuya.

Station times are each hotel’s published arrival guidance—not a timed walk from a nightlife venue. Check your exact dates, guests, room type, cancellation terms and current property information before booking. Hotel links here are direct and contain no affiliate tracking parameters.

ANDREW’S FIELD NOTES

I learned this
the expensive way.

“I’ve taken more Tokyo taxis than I wanted to, and stayed in hotels across the city. I know how much the distance home can change a night—and its cost.”

Andrew Tokyo Pub Crawl

Firsthand experience informs this guide. The hotel shortlist is not a claim that I personally inspected every property.

BEFORE YOU PUT YOUR HAND UP

Right taxi.
Right direction.

Open your hotel’s driving route first. Note the initial direction, then choose a safe pickup point where the taxi can follow it.

Right wayHotel
Wrong startDetour

“A wrong-way start can add 20–30% on some rides, in my experience.”

Andrew’s rule of thumb—not a fixed surcharge or citywide average. One-way roads may mean the legal route initially heads away from the hotel. Cross only at a safe, legal crossing; confirm with the driver.

THE SIGN INSIDE THE FRONT WINDSCREEN

BEFORE YOU PAY

Compare the whole stay, not the nightly headline.

Use the same dates, guest count, room type and cancellation terms. Include taxes and fees shown at checkout, then add the transport your plans actually require.

Room total your share of extra transport the useful comparison

Illustration—not a fare quote: saving ¥3,000 on a room but paying an extra ¥4,000 for a taxi makes that night ¥1,000 more expensive. With friends, use your actual share—and do not assume everyone leaves together.

Match the room to the traveller.

Solo travellers & women travelling alone

Choose a return route you are comfortable using, not just the shortest line. Confirm reception hours and late re-entry. For pods, check the specific floor / gender category and shared-facility arrangements. No neighbourhood or hotel is labelled “safe” simply because it appears here.

Solo nightlife guide → Women’s nightlife guide →
Couples, friends & families

Check the actual beds, room occupancy and any child-age rules. Two people sharing one bed is not the same booking as two beds. Pods are not a substitute for a family room. Choose the hotel for everyone staying there, not only the person going out latest.

Light sleepers & early departures

Ask about your room’s position and recent noise issues, and confirm the cancellation policy. An off-strip location or a sleep-focused brand cannot guarantee silence. Your morning plan may matter more than saving five minutes at night.

Step-free access or limited mobility

Do not infer accessibility from a short distance or a station exit. Confirm the room, elevator route, street-level entrance and late-night access with the property. The map’s pedestrian route is not audited for wheelchair access, stairs, gradients or temporary barriers.

THE DETAILS THAT SAVE A BAD SURPRISE

Before you book. Before you leave.

Last train is a whole journey.

Check your final connection, not a generic midnight cutoff. The last usable departure depends on the line, direction and date. The 11:30 PM and 2:30 AM taxi rides both fall inside the night-premium period.

Check the actual entrance.

A hotel name or map search can land on the wrong side of a block. Confirm the entrance and your final venue before relying on the route. A station exit helps with arrival, not necessarily the late-night walk.

Walk time is not a promise.

Times are pedestrian-route estimates. Signals, stairs, your pace, weather and access restrictions can change the journey. The rings remain straight-line references; they do not promise a safe or walkable route.

Read noise and late-return rules.

Confirm late check-in, re-entry, luggage storage and recent noise reviews. A quieter neighborhood does not guarantee a quiet room. Capsules are shared accommodation, not private hotel rooms.

Compare the entire night’s cost.

Subtract extra transport from a room-price saving. Sharing one taxi can help, but make sure the vehicle fits your group and do not assume everyone leaves together.

Same hotel, different nightlife.

Keep your hotel selected and switch the nightlife area above. The page checks the new return journey without asking you to search again. Choose the reference that is closest to where your night will actually end.

THE QUESTIONS THAT MATTER

A few clear answers.

What is the best area to stay in Tokyo for nightlife?

There is no single best area for every night. Our starting points are Roppongi for international and social nights, Shibuya for music and clubs, Shinjuku for Golden Gai / Kabukicho bar nights, and Ebisu for dinner and bars. Match the hotel to where your night will end, then check the actual route.

Should I move hotels just for one night out?

Usually, first compare the cost and inconvenience of moving with the return trip from your existing hotel. A base that suits the rest of your trip can be the better overall choice. Several late nights in one district make a nearby hotel more valuable.

Is Akasaka the same as Roppongi for hotel bookings?

No. It is an alternative base, not a substitute name for Roppongi. Compare the room for your dates and the specific walk or taxi from your final venue before deciding whether the saving is worthwhile.

Does a hotel inside the 800 m ring mean a short, safe walk?

No. The circles measure straight-line distance from a named nightlife reference point. Streets, hills, crossings and entrances change the route. A walking-time estimate appears only when a pedestrian route is returned; it is not a safety or accessibility assessment.

Are the taxi estimates live quotes?

No. They use a dated reference tariff and either a mapped road route or a clearly labelled rough distance model. Pickup / app fees, tolls and extra delay can add to the price. The upper end of the range is not a cap; check the operator or app before travelling.

Can I check a hotel that is not on the shortlist?

Yes. Search its full name or Tokyo address in the checker, then select the matching result. When online search or routing is unavailable, use the hotel’s official access page and a current directions service. Do not select a similarly named property just to get an estimate.

Sources, estimates & privacy

What this guide does. It compares hotel locations with named nightlife reference points. Area and property choices are Andrew’s editorial judgement, informed by hosting nightlife—not an independent hotel inspection, live booking feed or a universal ranking. Tokyo Pub Crawl benefits when readers attend its events. The hotel links are direct official links, with no affiliate parameters.

Hotel facts. Names, published addresses and arrival guidance were reviewed against the linked official property / access pages on . Access notes are linked on each card. Room prices, review scores, availability and noise guarantees are deliberately not presented as fixed facts. Confirm the booked room and current terms directly. The remm Roppongi access note identifies the exit discrepancy between its language versions.

Map points. Sotetsu’s official map links supply the two preloaded hotel property points: Roppongi and Higashi-Shinjuku. Other hotels are located only after you choose a matching search result or place a pin. A property point is not a surveyed entrance; coordinates and routes can still be wrong. No district-centre point is quietly substituted for a hotel.

The circles. The 800 m, 1.5 km and 2.5 km circles are geographic straight-line distances from the named nightlife reference. They are not walkable zones, taxi-fare zones, safety ratings or accessible-route assessments. Your actual venue and entrance can change the journey.

Route times. Selecting a point requests a pedestrian route and a separate car route from OSRM / FOSSGIS. Times are estimates between pins, with no live traffic. Pedestrian access, signals, stairs, your pace and temporary restrictions can differ. When walking routing fails, the page supplies directions links rather than inventing a walking time from the circles. Report a map error.

Taxi reference—not a live tariff feed. Checked 7 October 2026 for the Tokyo 23-ward / Musashino / Mitaka tariff area: ¥500 for the first 1 km, then ¥100 per 232 m; ¥100 per 85 seconds at low speed; 20% late-night premium from 10 PM to 5 AM. Sources: Tokyo Hire-Taxi Association and Nihon Kotsu. Do not apply this model to every part of Tokyo, an airport flat fare, a special vehicle or every operator.

Fare calculation. The night model shortens distance / time intervals rather than simply adding 20% to the initial fare. With a returned car route, both ends use that road distance; the upper end adds an illustrative five slow-speed minutes. Without a car route, the explicitly labelled rough model uses 1.15–1.55 times straight-line distance (with a minimum-distance allowance). This is a planning assumption, not a statistical confidence interval. Pickup / app fees, tolls, special-vehicle fees, longer delays and applicable discounts are excluded. The upper number is not a cap. Check the operator’s current fare or app estimate before travel.

Taxi signs. Colours vary by equipment; read the text. 空車 is vacant, 賃走 occupied, 迎車 collecting a passenger, 予約 reserved and 回送 out of service. Sources: JNTO and Japan Federation of Hire-Taxi Associations. Andrew’s wrong-direction advice is personal experience, not an official surcharge or measured citywide average.

Providers & privacy. Map data: © OpenStreetMap contributors, served through OpenFreeMap; renderer: MapLibre. Submitted searches go to Photon; selected coordinates go to the route provider. These public services have coverage / fair-use limits and no uptime guarantee. They receive your IP address and may log requests. “My location” asks for permission only when tapped.
